With so few sports bars available in Hong Kong, and with most of them located in Wanchai, the new Ministry of Mussels in Central is a welcomed addition to the city’s roster. Located in California Tower, the restaurant bar spans 4,000 sq. ft., and is outfitted with 11 large HD 4K TV screens, a beer pong table, a semi-covered terrace, wrap-around bay windows and even a kids play zone.

The large open space, generous portions of comfort food, a great selection of international beers and a live stream of sports games in the background make the sports bar the ideal place for a casual lunch or post-work drinks with friends. Guests are able to cheer on their favourite players and teams in a fun lively atmosphere, with the TVs continuously broadcasting some of the biggest championships and live events in sports, ranging from basketball and wrestling to tennis and golf.

Sports are not the only attraction at Ministry of Mussels. As the name implies, mussels are quite the star here. The restaurant boasts 10 different unique flavours, a never-before-seen in Hong Kong, served in beautiful copper casseroles. Dubbed the “Around the World Mussels”, the section of the menu takes guests on a journey through Singapore with broths such as Singapore Laksa and Singapore Chili Crab, with a detour through Thailand with the Thai Tom Yam and the Thai Green Curry, before ending up over in Europe with the Classic White Wine, the Bouillabaisse broth and the Italian Formaggi. Australian Chili, Lobster Bisque and Kung Pao are also excellent options.

At Ministry of Mussels, sharing is caring, and these plates are definitely made for sharing. Appetiser highlights include the Jalapeno Poppers, Deep Fried Camembert bites and Wings (your choice of sauce) and in the mains you won’t want to miss the Fish ‘n Chips, Chicky Parmegiana or Lobster Roll, a few good ol’ British and American classics. The apple crumble is the perfect finishing touch that is reminiscent of a mother’s apple pie, though one could easily be tempted by the Cookies and Cream alcoholic shake.

The restaurant and bar has made it a family affair by adding a kids menu as well as a padded play zone with some of the latest toys, to ensure that everyone in the family leaves full, happy and entertained.
