ALL THINGS GLITTER AND GLAM

There’s no shying away this summer. Beauty trends are going the extra mile, which means all things glitter and glam. The maximalist attitude here features full-on glitter dust, out-of-this-world holographic looks, face gems, sequins and glossy finishes. The bold aesthetics were first spotted on models walking in SS 2022 collections, like Acne Studios’s unpractical yet experimental sequinned lips creating a killer pout and Blumarine’s glitter-dusted ensembles.  

Y2K BEAUTY

Feeding off the maximalist beauty trend this summer is the Y2K makeup look. A flashback to the past, the 2000s-inspired aesthetic captures the season’s fun and flamboyant outlook as once seen on trendsetters like Nicole Richie and Xtina. There’s the glitter and gloss, but there are also soft pastels in baby pink and blue, overly plucked brows, heavily-coloured lids, matte complexions and shiny lips. It’s a playful mesh of every kind of style with modern hints from the noughties.

There’s no better time than now to step out of your comfort zone. Summer 2022 is expected to ooze with bold and vibrant colours, from bright neons to flashy reds. The sizzling season is meant to give you a spotlight moment, and bright pops of colours are an indulgent way to let your personality shine. Choose a classic red shade for the lips and cheeks, and play with colour contrast for the eyes using runway-inspired shades, like electric blues, bright oranges and hot pinks.  

MAKE IT DRIP

Splash into summer with a wet dewy glow that’ll have hearts racing. We’re not talking about dripping sweat; instead, it’s the sleek, glazed look as if you’ve just strutted out of the ocean and ran your fingertips through your wet hair kind of look. This trend plays less on makeup and more on skincare. To perfect the wet glow, you’ll need a primer after using a skin brightening moisturiser and sunscreen, some dewy, radiant drops and a creamy highlighter to enhance skin brilliance. 

A GOLDEN SUMMER

Have yourself a luxurious summer by playing with gold-toned and bronze-like shades. Easily the most glamorous and monochromatic of the trends, the high-end appeal drizzles in everything gold and expensive-looking. To create the pizzazz impression, generously brush on shimmery gold eyeshadow over the lids, use a highlighter and bronzer and swipe on a soft beige lip gloss. For a night out, smudge on some eyeliner to add more depth and swap out gold for copper for an edgy metallic aesthetic.
