From a continuation of Y2K glossy lips to graphic liners and rainbow nails, here are the beauty trends we expect to see in 2022.
As 2022 rolls around, we are already seeing an explosion of colour and glitter take over the beauty scene—think bright graphic liner, geometric shapes and juicy textures. While all of these looks created by world-renowned makeup artists look incredible, we know that recreating them ourselves can be a bit more intimidating. So, below we have rounded up our top five beauty trends that you can do at home as well as the products you need to try them out.
GLOSSY Y2K LIPS AND JUICY TEXTURES

This year it is all about the natural, dewy glow. We are seeing the rise of juicy, glass skin, which can be achieved by incorporating a hydrating finishing spray after your makeup or a glow-based primer before your makeup. The juicy textures theme also extends to high-gloss Y2K lips and shiny finishes on your eyes. We’d recommend buying one clear hydrating gloss that you can use over all of your other lipstick colours or consider trying out a cheek and lip tint—perfect for a shiny, berry-coloured finish that you can use on your cheeks, lips and eyes.

RHINESTONES ON THE EYES

In 2022 we are seeing a huge spike in eye embellishments—be it through sparkly rhinestones or graphic liner. The best part about this trend? It will stay perfect and smudge free even while staying safe and wearing a face mask. Adding rhinestones to your makeup routine is an easy way to take your look to the next level, if you are new to using rhinestones, try adding one small rhinestone to the inner or outer corner of your eye or mix it up by adding one to the centre of your lower lash line paired with some bold eyeshadow colour. Once you are more comfortable, add them anywhere you like—along the lower or upper lash or even up towards your eyebrow line.

BOLD BLUSH

A trend that took over TikTok and is now taking over the beauty scene: bold blush. While we will forever love a natural glow, this year we are seeing quite a few bright purple and coral hued blush looks that are undeniably fun and powerful. Perfect for all skin tones, we recommend Fenty Beauty’s Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream Blush in either their soft violet shade, Drama Cla$$ or Daiquiri Dip, a soft coral red. This cream blush is very buildable and instantly melts into the skin, which means you can use it for a very natural hint of colour or build it up for a bolder look.

GRAPHIC LINER

Once mastered, graphic liner is an easy way to add a pop of colour to your everyday look. It is achieved either by using coloured eyeliner or drawn on using a wet brush and dabbing it into coloured eyeshadow. We would recommend you try out a coloured pencil or gel eyeliner to practice before creating looks using a brush and eyeshadow, however if you are feeling brave and want to try out the eyeshadow-route, we highly recommend you keep your brush wet and rewet it during applications for the smoothest look. Our product recommendation for graphic liner is Sephora’s 12H Colourful Contour Eye Pencil Waterproof Eyeliner which comes in 24 different shades—perfect for any look you want to create.

RAINBOW TIP NAILS

A 2022 rendition of the classic French nails is the rainbow tip nails, dubbed by some as the ‘American manicure’. Instead of the classic white tip, we are seeing a rise of highly colourful tips ranging from single colours like deep red arched tips to multicoloured and ombre looks. If you are relatively comfortable painting your own nails, you could try out this trend at home. For a multicoloured rainbow at-home look, try painting each nail tip in a different colour and finish off with a clear top coat. For this, any nail polish you have at home would work well, but if you are looking for a more colourful range, check out Essie’s range. However, if you are less confident in your nail skills, we would recommend asking a local nail salon to recreate the look for you—we love Busy Bee in Hong Kong for their creative nail designs.
